**NEW - PLEASE NOTE**

As of Friday July 2nd, 2010 the Prenatal Education Classes by Credit Valley Hospital will be temporarily re-locating to the Credit Valley Hospital. This temporary relocation will be from Friday July 2nd until early September 2010 when we will return to Middlebury Public School.
The meeting place for all classes held at Credit Valley Hospital, unless otherwise stated by your teacher will be in front of the Subway Sandwich Restaurant located in the main lobby of the hospital. Your teacher will call you a few days before your classes to give you any specific details for your classes.

All classes before July 2nd will be held at Middlebury Public School as previously planned.

Starting with early September 2010 our classroom will be located in the MIDDLEBURY PUBLIC SCHOOL. The school address is listed below. It’s about five minutes from the Credit Valley Hospital.
ANY CLASSES BEFORE SEPTEMBER WILL BE HELD AT THE CREDIT VALLEY HOSPITAL. MEETING PLACE AT CVH IS THE MAIN LOBBY - IN FRONT OF SUBWAY SANDWICH RESTAURANT.

Your teacher will phone you a few days before to let you know what you need to bring on that day, and where you will meet them in the school. This will happen for each class you have enrolled in.


 

Welcome to The Credit Valley Hospital's ‘Building a Family’ prenatal education program. We offer several prenatal programs at the hospital to better help you prepare for your new arrival.
They are as follows:

  • “Building a Family - Labour, Birth and Beyond”
    • Postpartum & Parenting (Part One)
    • Labour & Birth (Part Two)
    • Breastfeeding Preparation (Part Three)
  • “Building a Family – A Refresher Program”
  • “Building a Family – Sibling Preparation”

Building a Family – Labour, Birth and Beyond

This six class weekly series is divided into two modules providing couples with scheduling flexibility. Alternatively the six class weekly series can be taken on the weekend.

1 Topics included in the Postpartum and Parenting (Part One) module:
(It is strongly suggested that this module be scheduled prior to the Labour and Birth module.)

The interactive classes of this module are designed to help couples make the transition to parenthood.

  • Physical changes and care of mothers’ after birth
  • Partners’ role
  • Newborn feeding
  • Normal newborn characteristics and care
  • Normal infant growth and development
  • Parenting

Topics included in the Labour and Birth (Part Two) module:
The interactive classes in this module are designed help prepare the expectant couple for labour and birth and assist them in making informed choices.

  • Labour and Birth
  • Comfort measures in labour including relaxation and breathing techniques
  • Medical procedures and analgesia/anaesthesia
  • Caesarian birth
  • Role of father/support person in labour
  • Immediate care of mother/baby after birth

Total Cost: $150.00 per couple for Labour & Birth/Postpartum series (subject to change without notice)

Breastfeeding Preparation (Part Three)

This two-hour course is designed to help couples make informed choices about infant feeding. We strongly recommend that both the expectant mother and her partner/support person attend. This class will include:

  • Preparations for breastfeeding
  • Benefits of breastfeeding
  • Typical newborn behaviour
  • Latch and positioning
  • Parenting the breastfed baby
  • Video presentation

Cost: $25 per couple (subject to change without notice)

Building a Family - Labour and Birth Refresher

This 4 hour weekend session is designed for experienced parents expecting a second or later baby. This interactive class will include the following topics:

  • Review of labour and birth
  • Review of medical procedures and anaesthesia/analgesia
  • Comfort measures in labour
  • Review of relaxation and breathing techniques

Cost: $75 per couple (subject to change without notice)

Sibling Preparation

This ninety-minute class is offered one Saturday morning per month. The Sibling Preparation class is designed to help prepare for the arrival of a new brother or sister and includes:

  • Story time and sibling video
  • Interactive group conversation about having a sibling
  • Playtime with child’s favourite doll or stuffed animal
  • Newborn visit and discussion of healthy newborn
  • Family tour of the maternity unit.

Cost: $25 per child (subject to change without notice) $15 for each additional sibling of the same family.

Refund Policy

There are no refunds for Prenatal Classes unless you deliver early, are put on bed rest by your physician, or move out of the area. All refunds require formal documentation as proof. This is also reviewed with you at your time of booking. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask the booking clerk.
